In May 2007, the new fluid dynamics lab opened for use in the basement Chapman Hall. At 4,500 square feet, the new lab is significantly larger than the old lab!
Below is a picture of our new space on our first day before we started moving equipment into the lab. ![]() The laboratory, shared between the mathematics and marine sciences departments, presently houses numerous equipment for performing fluid dynamics experiments, including a recirculating water tunnel, an Anton-Paar 4500 densitometer, a 6 watt Argon-Ion laser, a 500 fps digital video camera, numerous video and still digital cameras, thermal, conductivity, and hot film probes, a stratified mixing facility, and numerous tanks for performing stratified mixing experiments. Additionally, a large scale rotational mixing facility (RMX) is currently operational next door in the Computer Science department in the MSL laboratory. | The old fluid dynamics lab was located adjacent to the applied mathematics conference room, in 321 and 321A, Phillips Hall. Below are some pictures of the old fluid dynamics laboratory. Each room is approximately 175 square feet. |
